Philanthropy

About

The Philanthropy Investment Team was formed in Spring 2020 by request of the USIT Alumni Network, which wished to establish a partnership with the student organization to source charitable investment opportunities in which to invest. As such, the fund plans to generate ideas and perform diligence on charities that merit a donation in a buy-side process. Additionally, through the primary and secondary research of Analysts, the group will develop a model of measuring impact, both for initial investment diligence and subsequent staged donations. Over the course of the 2022 school year, the Philanthropy Investment Team will seek to donate from a portfolio of more than $100k.

While this fund reflects USIT’s commitment to educating students on the rising investment arena of social impact, it also presents a unique opportunity for Analysts to engage in deep communication with the Alumni Network as well as run a private equity-type investment process — analyzing data rooms, speaking with management teams, and ultimately presenting diligence findings to an Investment Committee. Analysts will be expected to commit significant time to pinpoint and execute a successful investment process, but the effort will be rewarded with a thorough education on the intersection of finance and impact and an encouraging community to call home at the Forty Acres.

Due to the intensity of learning and work ethic involved in real-time diligence, the Philanthropy Investment Team will be accepting no more than eight Analysts. Analysts will be expected to attend weekly investment meetings and public PIT lectures every other week. In the meantime, please look through the research listed under the “Further Resources” section to acquaint yourself with the space.
